Green Awards & Reporting

The City of Charlottesville and Charlottesville City Schools have been recognized for efforts in renewable energy, sustainability, and conservation from a variety of sources.

Trailblazer Award (9/2011) Charlottesville Local Food Hub and the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services presented Alicia Cost and Sandra Vasquez of the CCS Nutrition Services a Trailblazer Award for progress in developing innovative and creative solutions to incorporate locally grown food into their food procurement policies and commitment to increasing community access to fresh, healthy local food.

FIRST PLACE (Less than 5,000 student category) in the 2011 Virginia Green Schools Challenge (See a condensed version of the submitted report.) Second place winner in the 2009 Virginia Green Schools Challenge, sponsored by the VA School Boards Association.

The City of Charlottesville has many activities and efforts related to health, natural resources, and quality of life.
