Library/Media Center Resources
Bibliographies of Children Literature

The Library/Media Center is located at the heart of Walker School. The mission of the Library/Media Center is to help create lifelong learners-people who read for pleasure and information and people who know where to go to satisfy their informaiton needs.

Students visit the library every other week with their CORE classes. At this time, students receive formal instruction in library information skills, talk informally with their peers about books they have been reading, or hear a read aloud or booktalks conducted by the librarian. Children check out books at this time but are encouraged to use the library before school, daily during their CORE class with teacher permission, or after school in order to renew materials or check out new books for independent reading.

Teachers are encouraged to collaborate with the librarian in order to support the curriculum in all instructional areas. Examples of collaboration include requesting resource material, sending students with individual information needs to the library, or scheduling a time with the librarian for direct instruction for the entire class.
