Let’s Make Life-Long Readers Together!
The Venable Library is a special place where children are encouraged to become excited about the world of books.
The goal of the Venable Library is to facilitate student learning in all areas of the K-4 curriculum and assist children in research and reading for pleasure. The library staff encourages collaboration with all teachers and programs at Venable to extend and integrate beyond the library’s walls.
The library maintains a rich collection of print and non-print resources with full citations electronically available for ease of access through the school’s intranet. Additional resources are available through the internet from the Charlottesville School Division and other related agencies, such as SIRS, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, WVPT, and the Jefferson Madison Regional Library.
Student access to the library is both open and scheduled within the school day. Each class has a scheduled weekly visit for book check-out and a library curriculum activity. In addition, students are encouraged to visit as often as needed.
What Parents Need To Know!
Kindergarten students may borrow one book at a time. Please remind your child to return the book with the white library bag. First and second grade students may borrow two books at a time. Third and fourth grade students may borrow three books at a time; however, additional items may be borrowed when needed. If children forget to return their allotted number of books during a check-out visit, they may borrow one additional book for use at school.
Every effort is made to assist your child with appropriate selections; however, students may borrow from any books within the collection. Let us know if you have any concerns about the reading material your child selects. Library materials are due when there is no longer a need: however, after 3 -4 weeks we may call as a reminder.
