CHS Science Club Featured on Science Blogs

The Charlottesville High School Science Club, better known as BACON or Best All-Around Club of Nerds, sent balloons into the stratosphere but now they are taking their case to the blogosphere. The group was featured in web posts at Scientific American and geeksaresexy.com—where a video shows the team walking on water by way of an experiment with a giant pool of oobleck, a non-Newtonian fluid created by mixing cornstarch and water (The video is also on YouTube). It is awesome.

In April, the group is headed once again to Geneva, Switzerland to visit the Large Hadron Collider at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). This ten-day trip will include visits to Paris, Charlottesville's sister city Besançon, and Geneva. It is the third year that the group has made the journey, but its success has made it more difficult since 32 students -the largest group of students so far- have signed up to go.

As one might expect from a group of technically talented students, the group has created a web site to process donations via fundraising site Indie Gogo. Continuing news about the group (and its many past honors and accomplishments) can be found on the CHS BACON site

BACON is holding an Open Mike Fundraiser Friday, February 3. Admission is $5. Donations also accepted at this event. See press release here.
