White House Advisor Tours Johnson School and City

Nancy Sutley, President Obama’s principal environmental advisor and Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, joined Mayor Dave Norris and School Board Member Juandiego Wade for a school tour and discussion at Johnson Elementary School on November 9.

During the visit, they engaged with faculty and students to learn how the ENERGY STAR-certified school saves money and conserves resources through lighting and water conservation programs.The City of Charlottesville has developed a range of practices to monitor and curb energy use and cut costs, including energy audits of all City School buildings.

Chair Sutley also met with local business leaders and the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP) to discuss how President Obama’s Better Buildings Challenge and the Administration’s Recovery Through Retrofit initiative are creating jobs and saving consumers money by supporting markets for home and commercial building energy retrofits.
